Stats
Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s. By 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million.
Alzheimer's Facts
Research suggests that the complex brain changes associated with Alzheimer’s, such as the formation of amyloid plaques or tau tangles, start a decade or more before memory and thinking problems appear.
What is Amyloid?
Amyloid buildup may be behind your memory and thinking issues.
Amyloid is a protein that your body produces naturally. This protein can clump together and create amyloid plaques.
Excessive build-up of amyloid plaques in the brain may be associated with memory and thinking issues.
Amyloid plaques can continue to build up over time and potentially further impact your ability to think and function.
Understanding the signs
Do you feel your memory and thinking aren’t what they used to be?
It’s critical to learn if your memory and thinking issues are more than normal aging.
What can be done?
Early detection is critical.
Undergo a neurological consultation and assessment for early onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Undergo a mental status examination (MSE)—a structured assessment of behavioral and cognitive functioning.
Undergo an imaging test of your brain to see if you have an abnormal build-up of amyloid plaques.
